Our Lady of Perpetual Help Bracelet — Ten Italian Silver-Tone Medals, Medjugorje Handwoven Cord
The Our Lady of Perpetual Help bracelet is strung with ten small oval Our Lady of Perpetual Help medals in silver tone on a handwoven cord — a multi-medal devotional bracelet honoring one of the most beloved and widely reproduced images of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The devotion takes its name from a Byzantine Our Lady of Perpetual Help icon, painted in the Cretan style and dating to roughly the fifteenth century, which shows the Mother of God holding the Christ Child while two archangels — Michael and Gabriel — present the instruments of his Passion. In the image, the child clutches his mother’s hand and a sandal slips from his foot, a tender detail read for centuries as the soul taking refuge in Mary. The icon was brought to Rome in 1499, and in 1866 Pope Pius IX entrusted it to the Redemptorist order with the charge to “make her known throughout the world.” From the Redemptorist church in Rome the devotion spread across every continent, carried especially through the perpetual novena — the recited Our Lady of Perpetual Help novena that fills shrines week after week. Nowhere is this stronger than in the Philippines, where the Wednesday novena at the Baclaran shrine in Parañaque draws tens of thousands of the faithful. The feast of Our Lady of Perpetual Help falls on June 27, and the traditional Our Lady of Perpetual Help prayer invokes her “most powerful name” as the refuge of those in any need. Known also as Our Mother of Perpetual Help, she points always to her Son.
Each Our Lady of Perpetual Help bracelet carries ten oval medals in silver tone, produced in Italy and hand-knotted along a woven Medjugorje cord. Available in 15 cord colors for Redemptorist parishes, Filipino and Latino communities, novena and Rosary apostolates, Catholic schools, First Communion and Confirmation gifts, and devotional wholesalers. Supplied in packs of 10.
Handwoven in Medjugorje by women who pray as they tie each knot, every Our Lady of Perpetual Help bracelet from MIRJAM DOO carries devotion at its source — Italian medals, Bosnian hands, in honour of the Mother of Perpetual Help who, in the ancient icon, points always to her Son.
